God of Mercy and Judgment

Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, “You will not call to account”?

                                                                                                                  Psalm 10:13 (ESV)

This is the great deception of sinful men. When God does not punish them immediately they assume he will not punish them at all. God is a God of mercy who gives sinners every opportunity to repent, but if the wicked do not repent the day of judgment will come for them. God's long suffering is mistaken for short memory but this is not so. The God of love and mercy is most assuredly also a God of justice and judgment. The sinner must face his sin if he fails to confess it.
